Will it be bright enough?
At night, yes — comfortably. In direct daylight, no, and no projector at this size does. It's rated around 120 to 200 ANSI lumens, which needs darkness or a dim room to look its best.
For what you're buying it for, that's a non-issue. Trick-or-treaters come after dark. Movie nights happen after dark. The one thing to avoid is expecting a bright picture at 2pm with the blinds open.
How far back does it need to go?
- Window scenes: about 2.5 feet back fills a standard window. Most people set it on a side table or a stack of books.
- Big screen: about 8.5 feet back gets you the full 130 inches.
Anywhere in between works. Auto keystone squares the image up if you're projecting at an angle, so it doesn't have to be perfectly centred.
Does it go outside? Is it weatherproof?
It is not weatherproof, and it shouldn't sit out in the rain. The good news is the classic window haunt is done from inside — the projector stays warm and dry in your living room and the effect happens on the glass.
For backyard movie nights, keep it under cover and run the cable inside. It needs a wall outlet, so it wants to be near power anyway.
